Are you ready to pilot your favourite mecha models?

MechaTop helps you to involve your friends in your passion for mecha through a board game that safely uses your beautiful mecha models as miniatures. …or you can play it alone with “solo mode”.

MechaTop uses the "Cockpit control system": an innovative control system for mechanized units that will give you the idea of really being on board your mecha!

At the beginning of each round, before the initiative is established, in the so-called instinct phase, each player must plan two button tokens for each unit he controls.
When activated, or in the opponent's turn, the player may use these token buttons to perform the actions described above.
MechaTop is much more than the usual "move and attack" game as it gives you the chance to act in your opponent's turn, depending on how it suits you in that given moment of play.

MechaTop was founded on Kickstarter in July 2020 but it is still possible to order your limited edition copy!

HOW TO PLAY

PREPARE THE BATTLE

Each player chooses his units according to the established score.
Each mecha or vehicle has a stat card that describes its characteristics, weapons and its cost in points.
Standard match is 1,800 points.

Then assign a pilot to each unit:

To complete your team's score and to further customise your mecha's equipment you will have upgrade cards available.
Each unit can have a maximum of two upgrade cards (unless piloted by a builder).
Some cards bring you small disadvantages in favour of a return of points:

...other upgrade cards add several options to your mecha.
Pay attention to the compatibility of upgrade cards!

After the players have prepared their armies they randomly draw a "twist" card and keep it secret until they decide to use it.
The twist cards can overturn the outcome of a battle if they are played at the right time!

The twist cards are 8 in total, here are some examples:

ENTER IN THE BATTLEFIELD

Players will roll a d6 to determine who will place their units first on the field, following the specific instructions for each scenario.

After both players have positioned their units, the weapons are placed in the hands of the mecha. (Mark it on its paper)
Instinct Phase: players will have to plan their units by placing 2 covered button tokens next to each one. (Or three button tokens if the unit is a "Fast Fighting Unit" or "Self Existing Unit").
Then the initiative will be established and the players will alternate the activation of their units.

When activating a unit the player can decide to use all or part or none of the button tokens, to stay ready for any kind of reaction (counterattack, reactive attack or dodge).
Button tokens have different effects when combined together and different effects depending on whether they are used in your activation or your opponent's activation:
For example: you can then decide, depending on the situation, to use the "ATTACK" button token in your turn to attack an enemy unit, or keep it ready to be used in the opponent's turn to perform a reactive attack or counterattack!
After all the units have alternated in the activation, the recovery phase is started: drivers who have suffered stun damage can try to recover them.
Then we proceed to the instinct phase and start a new round, until one of the players reaches the victory conditions set by the scenario.

PILOTS

Pilots are also extremely important in MechaTop: through their skills you can turn the outcome of the battle!

These are the three most famous pilot classes; each one presents unique and different skills.
Each class of pilot has basic skills that can be used from their first fight in all game modes and nine special skills that can be purchased using experience points accumulated by the pilot exclusively in the Campaign Game Mode.

Builder
This category includes manufacturers, mechanics, engineers, and electricians.
They are an excellent support for Mecha unit and combat vehicle repairs.

Leader
This category includes commanders, leaders, and people with high charisma.
They are responsible for combat planning and coordinating team members during battle.

Nuclear Progeny
This category includes people with radiation-induced nuclear mutations and clones.
They are the aces of combat: with their amplified reflexes and mental abilities, they are the spearhead of every team.

CAMPAIGN BOOK #1

The first book of the MechaTop campaign trilogy introduces 6 new pilot classes:

Ace of Combat
Pilots who have distinguished themselves for their merits on the battlefield.
They have excellent aim and know many war tricks!

Cyborg
Composed of more than 70% of mechanical parts.
Are externally identical to humans, have a higher resistance to blows and explosions and can acquire any human skill by updating their internal software.

Fanatic
Bloodthirsty soldiers, mad scientists, preachers of the apocalypse, they are unpredictable in battle: they can pilot powerful mecha or lead their teammates as the best leaders.

Mercenary
People without ideals who fight for the highest bidder.
Tempered by numerous battles they know all the tricks of war and can adapt to any team always learning something from each one.

Son of War
Survivors, war orphans or soldiers in continuous service.
They excellent as support, gifted with great heroism they always manage to make a difference in every battle.

Veterans
Military or civilian pilots returning from dozens of battles; sometimes bear battle scars or are even mutilated.
They are however excellent coordinators and extremely difficult to shoot down.
The book also contains a new, more flexible level-up system with many more skills available to create always unique pilots..

But the heart of the book is the first part of the MechaTop campaign trilogy: 24 battles for 1+ players where you will experience first-hand the attacks of the first mysterious mecha and have to solve the mystery behind those numerous attacks.

FAQ

DISCLAIMER

MechaTop is not associated with any existing franchise, the game is a universal regulation for the use of any robot model as a miniature.

MechaTop has its own background, its own story, which is described in the trilogy of the campaign book.

The photos on the website represent the models of the players involved in the playtest.

PLAYTESTED CARDS

We have created over 270 cards of the most famous mecha of the TV series from the 70s to the present day.
The database containing these cards is updated weekly with new official additions plus some of the most beautiful ones created by fans. The database also contains some special/advanced rules and some dedicated upgrade cards.
Access to this database is free for all "Tournament ID Code" holders (included in each set-base) or can be purchased separately as a "Database license".
Here below the list of playtested cards:

MODEL SCALE

MechaTop does not include miniatures because our vision is to let people play with what they already have at home.

The board game system will allow the use of any model and action figure in scale 1/48, 1/72, 1/100, 1/144, 1/200 and 1/400+ in a battlefield of 180 x 90 cm (6 x 3 feets).

On the unit card the movement and range are never indicated with a number but with a definition: Tank, Slow, Average, Fast and Jet, for the movement; Zero, Close, Short, Medium, Long and Very Long for the range of weapons. Inside the rules there are tables that indicate, according to the scale in which I am playing, the corresponding values, in centimeters and inches.

KICKSTARTER EXCLUSIVE

When will we find Mechatop in the shops?
NEVER, The only stores that will be able to sell it are those that have reserved it through Kickstarter or BackerKit.

Will it be possible to buy MechaTop on Amazon?
NO

MechaTop is a "Kickstarter Exclusive" product and can only be purchased through Kickstarter or BackerKit while stocks last.

Some items have been produced in extremely limited quantities and there is no certainty that they will be reprinted in the future.

SOLO MODE

In solo mode, the opposing mecha will not have to plan the button tokens but establish their "battle attitude" for that round of the game. This is determined by throwing a dice or drawing a card from the mode only deck. There are six possible battle attitudes:
- Attack
- Bring it down
- Charge
- Defensive
- Engage
- Flanking

Every attitude then has 4 scenarios available:
- loaded weapon / in range
- loaded weapon / out of range
- unloaded weapon / in range
- unloaded weapon / out of range

Read the actions to be taken according to the situation of the enemy unit, if you are unable to complete the first series of actions indicated, you must perform the second sequence.

STAT CARD ALGORITHM

The 🔧 point value of a unit is established through a calculation that takes into account:

- Technological level of your unit: from 1 to 3. This will determine how many structure points per metre of height your unit can have;

- Structure points of the unit that are proportional to the actual size of the mecha (or the length of the vehicles);

- Material of which the unit is composed, to establish the defense value of the armor: 2d6 military vehicle, 3d6 steel and ceramic alloys, 4d6 rare materials (Lunar Titanium, Space Titanium, special experimental alloys), 5d6 unique metal (each team should have no more than one such model);

- Shield cost (if present), calculated as above;

- Speed of your unit;

- Special features of your unit;

- Weapons;

The manual contains a section that will guide you step by step in the creation of your personalised cards.
